Dangerous Products – Asbestos
Asbestos is a toxic substance that is used in construction and for various chemical purposes. The history of this chemical is very interesting and controversial, especially for Canada which is one of the leading manufacturers of this chemical worldwide. Asbestos became widely used in the late 19th century by manufacturers and builders. Because of its resistance to heat, electricity and chemical damage, its sound absorption and tensile strength it was used in buildings, cloth, fire retardant coatings, concrete, bricks, pipes and fireplace cement, heat, fire, and acid resistant gaskets, pipe insulation, ceiling insulation, fireproof drywall, flooring, roofing, lawn furniture, drywall joint compound and even electric oven and hotplate wiring. Until the mid 1980th when it was proven that asbestos leads to serious illnesses, like malignant mesothelioma, lung cancer, and asbestosis (a type of pneumoconiosis).
1906 was the year when the first asbestos related death occurred, but even before that researchers noticed a large number of early deaths and lung problems in asbestos mining towns. If we look deeper into history even the ancient Greeks observed that slaves that wore asbestos clothing had lung problems. In 1924 in England, the first country which recognized problems with asbestos, the doctors made the first asbestosis proven diagnosis was made. England was also the first country to include regulated ventilation and made asbestosis an excusable work related disease, in the 1930th, ten years prior to the United States. The term Mesothelioma also came to medical literature in 1931 and became associated with asbestos in the 1940th. The usage of asbestos was truly horrific. From 1952 to 1956 the first filtered cigarette on the market – Kent, used crocidolite asbestos in its “Micronite” filter. During the World War II thousands of tons of asbestos were used to wrap the pipes, line the boilers, and cover engine and turbine parts. This lead to a huge number of asbestos related illnesses among the dock workers. United States is the leading country in the asbestos casualties they reach approximately 100,000 people deceased and unknown number with terminal illnesses at the current moment.
France was the first country to ban the use of asbestos in 1997 and called for a worldwide ban, it 2000 Frances ban was upheld by the World Trade Organization. Canada has its own special relations with asbestos. The only asbestos mines operating in Canada today are in the Province of Quebec and are owned by the Quebec government. Right now Quebec is the second largest producer in the world behind Russia and the world’s largest exporter of asbestos (mostly to Asian countries). Banning of this substance is economically important for whole country and in 1999 the representatives of the Canadian government went before the World Trade Organization to challenge the ban of asbestos, still this initiative was not supported. Today this chemical is banned in 60 countries in whole or in part. As for the status of Asbestos in Canada it is illegal to sell it in the country, still mining and exporting of asbestos is legal.
The Pleasure of Smoking
“Let’s light a cigarette”
Only smokers can understand and enjoy to the pleasure of this phrase itself and the acts that follow it. It could be compared only with a delicious flavour that comes from a steak that is just taken away from the grill. Is your mouth already watered?
The same is the case with the cigarettes. Now I am at my 6th month of non smoking and I still long for this feeling – one cigarette with the coffee, one cigarette after dinner, one during the breaks, one in the traffic jam, at a party, when you are nervous and when you are calm, when you are happy and sad etc. Wherever we are, we emit familiar grey smoke. I am sure that if you are reading this now, your right or left hand holds something. It could be a cigarette and you understand me very well at the moment or a glass of some alcohol, because you, just like me, are trying to quit your favourite and most harmful habit.
Smoking is not just a vice that you could give up easily, it is not a wound to heal or an insult to forgive – it is a lifestyle, I afford to compare it even with the religion beliefs. You know that cigarettes could kill you but you cannot quit them. And it not only the addiction but the whole process – from the lightening to the last drag that you take. You like the smell of the nicotine, the taste in your mouth, the way it stands in your hand, the feeling of the smoke in its way through the throat to the lungs. You are keen on the confidence that cigarettes give you in stressful situations and the relaxing effect they provide in stressful situation.
We cannot neglect and the social impact of this habit and the fact that smokers are much more sociable and tolerant to each other. Everybody finds common language when hears the phrase “let’s light a cigarette”. The pressure immediately disappears and people feel at ease when they see that the other also brings out a cigarette.
These are a few advantages that we receive in inhaling and exhaling the curls of smoke. All the enthusiasts to give up smoking can find a range of quit products on the market – from nicotine gums and candies, patches and jewelleries, pills and liquids to the brand-new that I really do not believe and namely – a melody for your mobile phone. Do you want to tell you a secret?
All these funny supplements are invented by non-smokers. Have you think of what a brain could believe in a non-smoking effect of pills, for example.
What can give me one pill or candy? Several weeks ago, I came across one very funny that is worth to mention. It is about taking some pills in so complicated schema, something like one before eating if you eat meat, one after eating if you eat vegetables, not more than 5 per day, if you drink alcohol, one before sleep if it is before 10 o’clock………..you are laughing, but this is the cleverest invention from all the offered products. And do you know why – you simply do not have time to think about cigarettes because you are concentrated on the complicated program of taking your pill. Of course, this is a joke, because earlier or later you will get angry and drop it like a hot potato.
What I want to tell you with this article is to share my experience with the cigarettes and to recommend something very interesting. If you are a seriously addicted smoker and realize the bad effect on your health, but also know that give up smoking is “mission impossible” for you, the best choice is to try the so called “electronic cigarettes” that lately caused a sensation.
As I mentioned I am at my 6th month of giving up with such device which is too early to call myself non-smoker. But I am looking for followers to exchange experience and impressions. And here is mine:
” I didn’t want to quit smoking at all, but with the raging financial crisis
I should find any cheap cigarette alternatives of my brand;
” The new restrictions made the only pleasure of smokers impossible at the favourite places
” More and more people started to look at me such as I was taking drugs;
” I started to feel that climbing the 8th floor got more and more difficult task for my lungs;
These were only several reasons that bothered me before 6 months. In conjunction with them, I was thinking also about the potential weigh problems that inevitably pursue the process of giving up, whether I will suffer without cigarettes, whether my coffee will have any sense, how to spend the time with my smoking friend etc….how will I survive without my hobby????
Then I found the electronic cigarette and decided to try. I do not put any limits or promises at myself. I was more curious than resolved to try all means. And in fact till now I continue to be in the same spirit – six months.
Maybe I even do not realize it or maybe be I am realizing it at the moment of writing this article. The reason I achieved this result is what we discussed above – I enjoy the pleasure of smoking cigarette and also satisfy my nicotine hunger. Now I can even smoke everywhere I want and it does affect neither my pocket nor my smoking pleasure. In one words I have to reject nothing else but save about 90% of my usual costs on normal cigarettes. I started to feel my body in much better physical condition but after the third month of usage.
In conclusion I would like to note that the author of this article is one of the biggest fan of cigarettes and I will always be keen on this habit. What I want to recommend to my followers is another kind of pleasure sticks with more advantages and more pleasure. You can already find them everywhere on the market. I ordered mine from http://www.justsmoking.com/ and I am very glad with it. What grabbed my attention at first sight was just the name of the website, but then I understand that the content is also as interesting.
Wish you good luck!
The Inner Workings of Electronic Cigarettes
Electronic cigarettes are a relatively new product that emerged on the global marketplace in the early to mid 2000′s. They are an alternative to traditional tobacco smoking which allows you to inhale a vapor that tastes like a regular cigarrete, has nicotine in the vapor, and even looks like a cigarette, but do not produce dangerous second hand smoke and do not contain the deadly toxins and carcinogens found in traditional tobacco. E-cigs have continued to gain in popularity world-wide due to their safer nature over regular tobacco and cheaper cost.
What Makes the Electronic Cigarette Work?
E-cigs mimic a real cigarette but are not considered a tobacco product. The use an atomizer which creates a vapor from the e liquid mixture contained in the electronic cigarette cartridge. Once the vapor is created, the smoker inhales the vapor which provides the nicotine “buzz” in addition to the e-cig flavoring. The other ingredients found in the e liquid that is in the e-cig cartridge are water and propylene glycol which is used to create the visual vapor seen when you are smoking or “vaping” an electronic cigarette. There are different varients on the market such as Green Smoke and Smoke Assassin which vary in what components of the e-cig are disposable. In general, it works out to be upwards of 20% cheaper to use and electronic cigarette over traditional tobacco.
Am I Safe Using an Electronic Cigarette
Electronic cigarettes are significantly safer than traditional tobacco smokes by not containing the more than 4,000 toxins and 60+ carcinogens found in tobacco cigarettes. Nicotine remains a known, addictive drug, but the side effects for e-cigs are considered to be minimal at the time of this writing and are significantly less than those found in regular smokes. Just like traditional tobacco, e-cigs do have the potential to deliver nicotine in excess of what your body can cope with if not used in moderation. Unlike traditional tobacco cigarettes, e-cig manufacturers do release the ingredients found in their e-liquid mixtures so you actually know what you are ingesting into your body.
